On Monday, January 15, 2007, The Memphis Challenge and Memphis Association of Black Journalists (MABJ) hosted an awards reception for the deserving students that participated in the Pursuit of Happyness Essay Contest.
Nicondra Norwood, Eyewitness News/ABC 24, and Stephanie Scurlock, News Channel 3, of MABJ awarded the top three winners. April Thompson also with News Channel 3 interviewed the grand prize winner.

The Commercial Appeal profiled The Memphis Challenge in their May 28th Viewpoint edition and three Challengers shared their thoughts on "The Brain Drain."

Memphis Challenge high school juniors and seniors donated their time and academic excellence to help the fifth graders at KIPP Diamond Academy prepare for the TCAP writing exam.
The Memphis Challenge held its first summer retreat in July with keynote speaker Pam McKelvy, Channel 5 News Anchor/Reporter, and special guest Les Brown, motivational speaker.
